What your Animal Totem Means – Part 1

November 2nd, 2008 by Dan Bodenstein

Based on statistics, there are a lot of people who want to learn more about their Animal spirits, and totems. Using online sources, and my favorite book Animal Speak” by Ted Andrews, I have compiled a group of commonly search animal totems.

These totems can appear in a vision, or in reality. If a lizard crosses your path, it may not be inconsequential.

In part 1, we explore, the Blue Jay, Owl, Bear, Dolphin, Panther and Horse.

If your totem is not here, please leave a comment, and I will try to add it to the next article in this series.

Blue Jay

The Blue Jay indicated that you could be entering a time of great resourcefulness and adaptability. It also represents the need to use your power wisely. Look within and see where you may be abusing your power.

Owl

The owl has more mystery to it than any other bird. It is a symbol of “femininity” , the moon, and the night. The Owl represents the need or practice or watching diligently in silence. The owl sees all, and reacts swiftly and quietly. The owl represents stealth, secrecy, keen insight, and freedom.

Bear

The bear represents introspection, and looking within. Look within yourself, and if necessary be more reclusive. Use this time, similar to the bears hibernation period, to give birth to new ideas. The bear also represents healing energy, and solitude.

Dolphin

Represents the power of breathing and sound. If the dolphin appears to you it may be time for you to go out and get some fresh air, and have fun. You may be bottled up and need to release tensions. The Dolphin also reflects balance. It may be time to examine the balance in your life between work and play. Restore harmony within your life.

Panther

The panther may reflect the need for you to take on a heroes role. It represents an awakening of the need to empower yourself. It may also show you the path to seeing the chaos within your life. It may also provide insight in how to understand the chaos around you.

Horse

The horse represents Power, Freedom and Travel. If a horse appears to you examine its movements, it is walking, trotting, or running? This may reflect the need, or current status of your travels through life. The horse also represents new journeys. It may be time for you to take a trip, or take a new step forward in your life’s journey.
